Atlanta Divorce Mediation

Atlanta Divorce Mediation Services

Take the Trauma out of divorce

A calmer, more affordable path to divorce — guided by a Registered Georgia Mediator and Clinical Psychologist with four decades of experience. Most clients finish in three sessions, for a fraction of the cost of a litigated divorce.

A better way to handle your divorce

If you’re considering divorce in Atlanta, you already know what the traditional path looks like: two attorneys, months of back-and-forth, rising legal bills, and a judge who’s never met your family making decisions about your children and your finances.

There is another way.

Divorce mediation lets you and your spouse sit down with a trained, neutral professional and make your own decisions — about parenting, property, and your future — in a structured, respectful process. No courtroom. No adversarial posturing. No surprise invoices.

At Atlanta Divorce Mediation Services, Dr. Jeri Breiner has guided hundreds of Georgia couples through this process with one mission: take the trauma out of the divorce process.

Who divorce mediation is right for

Mediation works best when both spouses are willing to sit in the same (virtual or in-person) room and work toward a fair outcome. It may be the right fit if:

  • You both want to avoid court and keep costs down
  • You have children and want to protect them from a drawn-out fight
  • You’d rather control your own outcome than hand it to an attorney or a judge
  • You want privacy — mediation is confidential, and information collected cannot be used for litigation unless you both sign the documents
  • You’re seeking an amicable or uncontested divorce
  • You need help crafting a workable parenting plan

Mediation is not the right fit if there is active domestic violence, hidden assets, or one spouse refuses to participate in good faith. In your free consultation, Dr. Jeri will help you assess whether mediation makes sense for your situation.

Our divorce mediation services

Divorce Mediation

Neutral, structured mediation that walks you through the 20–25 critical decisions required to finalize a Georgia divorce — from asset division to support to insurance — and culminates in a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Couples Mediation

For spouses who want to work through conflict, communication, or separation decisions before committing to divorce, mediation offers the space to talk with a neutral professional and decide what comes next.

Family Conflict Mediation

Guided conversations for extended-family disputes, blended-family transitions, or conflicts involving adult children and an aging parent can benefit from mediation.

Parenting Plans & Child Custody Agreements

Dr. Jeri draws on 20+ years of research in parenting — including parenting children with disabilities — to help you build a custody arrangement and parenting plan tailored to your children’s real needs, not a court template.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Drafting

A comprehensive written agreement capturing every decision you and your spouse reach in mediation. This document can be filed with the court, with or without an attorney.

Flat-Fee Attorney Filing Option

If you’d prefer an attorney handle the court filing, we’ll connect you with mediation-friendly attorneys from our pre-vetted list at a pre-negotiated flat fee.

How it works: a simpler path in 9 steps

  6. Review the draft and request any corrections.
  7. Sign the MOU in person or via DocuSign.
  8. Receive your signed original — file it yourself or use our flat-fee attorney option.
  9. File with the court in your county for the Final Decree of Divorce.

Frequently asked questions

How long does divorce mediation take in Georgia?

Most couples complete mediation in three 90-minute sessions, spaced as far apart as they need to gather information and make thoughtful decisions. Start-to-finish, most clients finalize their MOU within three months.

Do I still need a lawyer if I use a mediator?

No — you can file your signed MOU with the court yourself. Some clients prefer to have an attorney review the MOU before signing or handle the court filing. We offer a flat-fee attorney filing option ($2,000) through our pre-vetted list of mediation-friendly attorneys.

Is Dr. Jeri an attorney?

No. Dr. Jeri is a Clinical Psychologist and a Georgia Supreme Court Registered Mediator. She does not provide legal advice. She provides neutral mediation that helps you and your spouse reach your own agreement, which can then be filed with the court.

How much does divorce mediation cost in Atlanta?

Sessions are $450 each (90 minutes). Most couples finish in three sessions ($1,350), plus $650 for the MOU. Typical all-in cost is well under $5,000 — including having an attorney file it for you — a fraction of a contested divorce.

Can we mediate if we have children?

Yes. Dr. Jeri brings 20+ years of parenting research to helping couples craft practical, individualized parenting plans and child custody agreements. If you have minor children, you’ll receive a comprehensive Parenting Plan required by your county and Child Support Worksheet required for divorce court as part of your mediation.

What if we can’t agree on something?

That’s exactly what mediation is designed for. Dr. Jeri’s role is to help you work through disagreements in a structured, respectful way. If either of you gets stuck on an issue, you can take a break, consult with an outside advisor, and return to resolve it in a later session.

Is mediation confidential?

Yes. Unlike courtroom divorce, which creates a public record, mediation is private. What you discuss stays between you, your spouse, and your mediator.

What if issues come up after the divorce?

You can always come back to mediation instead of returning to court. We’re here for ongoing needs — modifications to parenting plans, new disputes, or revisions to agreements.
